Château de Clérac
is on the outskirts of the village of
Clérac (3 mins by foot!), in
the Charente-Maritime department of
France. Clérac is a small, pretty
rural village with some 400 inhabitants.
Within a few kilometers of Clérac
is the town of Montguyon...
Montguyon
Montguyon (literally
Guy's Mount) was originally a
fortified castle town - guided
visits are given round the medieval
castle during summer. Being a
larger town, you can find banks
(cash machines, cashing travellers
cheques, etc), chemists, various
shops and a supermarket. Montguyon
is also a market town, and on
the first Wednesday of each month
the streets are lined with stalls
selling some fantastic fresh local
produce.
On the way to the Beauvallon
lake (see below) you can also
see an ancient monolith, dating
back thousands of years. |
